What is Expressive Writing

Why would you add writing to your self-care routine?
Modern distractions, such as phones, can distance us from our inner witness and the sacredness of life.
Writing is a deeply personal act that helps us reconnect to our internal landscape, nurturing a heartfelt witness to the experiences
and expressions of our body, heart, and spirit.
Not only deepening the relationship with ourself, we also develop more meaningful relationships with others and the world.
Writing for self-enquiry helps us ground our experiences, access unconscious emotions and beliefs,
fosters self-awareness, and encourages personal empowerment.
Writing promotes curiosity, emotional expression, and mindfulness, offering a release from the “Monkey Mind” (restless thinking).
Additionally writing by hand enhances creativity and provides a cathartic and calming effect.
“Writing is a Healthy Self-Care Practice, and scientific studies have shown that a regular writing practice
has the ability to improve physical, mental, and emotional health in dramatic ways“.
Mark Matousek, award winning writer & teacher
Implemented as a stand-alone practise or paired with body-based practices such as qigong, taiji, or dance, writing for self-enquiry
inspires us to develop our listening heart and “inner witness” — a curious, non-judgmental part of ourselves
that observes our thoughts, emotions, and experiences, and thus reconnects us to our true essence.
In our work together, with the page acting as a safe container for exploration, and inviting the hand to write freely,
prompts* will be given to inspire insights, unlock hidden narratives, your intuition and inner wisdom.
The more truthful you are doing this work the more insights will arise, moving you toward a healthier, happier and more meaningful life.
There are no right or wrong ways to do this, simply open your mind, let your pen alight upon the page,
and be prepared to be surprised by the wisdom that lies within you.
*A writing prompt is a sentence starter or can be a question, that lets you dive into the writing process.
For example: “If your body could speak, what message would it share with you today?”
